T-Mobile has announced that cliq, Motorola’s first Google phone, will be available for sale, on October 19 for $200. According to Bellevue, which is the Washington based carrier, existing customers can pre-order the Cliq online before the smartphone becomes widely available in stores on November 2.
In order to regain the lost market share from rivals Apple’s iPhone and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry devices, Motorola has reorganized its entire headset unit around the development of Google’s Android phones, hoping that it will be extremely successful in the fast growing smartphone market.
The main feature of the Cliq is the Motorola’s new "MotoBlur" software which comprises of an interface that enables updates from contacts, messages and emails, along with postings and photos from social networking portals like Facebook and Twitter to be seen as one combined view.
This is done by storing entered information, which is backed up on a secure server, in order to allow the users to retrieve, or erase, data from a lost or stolen handset remotely.
Wendy Pinero DePencier, T-Mobile’s vice president of brand marketing said that T-Mobile customers text message and access social messaging on mobile devices more than those of any other carrier, which is why they are being given the first opportunity to purchase the Cliq.
According to T-Mobile, the Motorola Cliq will be able for pre-order online on October 19 and in stores on November 2, costing $200 with a two-year contract.
