It seems that Service Pack 2, that was scheduled to be released for Windows Vista and MS Office 2007 by February 2009, might get delayed further. We are not expecting it to see the daylight until late June 2009. Reports around the tech world are saying that Microsoft has still not started beta testing it. In a statement on Microsoft Website it says:

“Microsoft is working on a second service pack for Windows Vista… and Windows Server 2008. Service packs are part of the traditional software life cycle — they’re something we create for all Microsoft products as part of our commitment to continuous improvement. And, as is standard, Microsoft is continuously having conversations with key stakeholders, prior to broadly distributing test builds. We will share more details in the coming months.”

WindowsVista SP2

It is feared that Support for Blu-Ray drives , Bluetooth 2.1 and Windows Search 4.0 is the key reason for delay. However some people also see Microsoft’s in-ability to hire beta-testers in time as part of the problem(it could very well be result of the problem).

This delay from Microsoft  is likely to keep impact migration decisions of IT Managers and Enterprise Users. With no date for Vista SP2 release in sight, most of customers might stick with rather stable Windows XP SP2.

Rumor has it that Microsoft, under pressure from SP2 delays, is considering extending Windows XP Support life.
