How to Turn On Your PC in Under 10 Seconds
Alright, so you are also interested in having a 10 Second PC. Does sound like having a 10 second car, isn’t it? It also reflects that we all don’t like waiting for your PCs to boot and every millisecond delay feels like a minute and every minute feels like an hour.
I have found this tip on Internet and have yet tried it as I am not willing to experiment with my 20 month old windows XP installation. may be you can try it and post me back the results.
- Click Start > Run
- Type Regedit and Press Enter (This will open the Registry Editor)
- Look for following Key
HKEY_LOACAL_MECHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex
- Find a Key called “Startup Delay”
- Double Click On It
- It is normally a base Value, Change it to Decimal
- Default Value Is 4800000 (75300:hexadecimal)
- Change The Value To 40000
- Close the Registery Editor and Restart Your Computer
- You are done, Restart your PC.
Disclaimer: this is not good for your PC, Do it on your own risk. The real key to have a 10 Second PC is a good processor, more ram, faster hard disk and leanest of all operating systems. (Linux)
PS: Using XP Hibernate feature is also a good way to boot up your PC in under or near 10 seconds.

Pratyushs last blog post..Hahaha, I like the idea of this ad.
I don’t want to try this. Too risky. Better careful than sorry. Maybe someone who can afford it will try it first and then tell the rest of us who are too scared to try. lol

Wow you can bootup your PC within 10 seconds? Sounds awesome, but unrealstic. Perhaps if you had a SSD drive, but like you said, you’d need a faster proccessor, ram and a lean OS. Good topic though. John

It is not possible, I’ve tried it several systems before.
Even with the fastest processor or the Huge RAM… 10 seconds boot up is simply impossible !!
That registry branch is related to the “Indexing Service”.
And as any repectable windows tweaker should know, this service is one of the first to DISABLE, in order to have a more responsive pc. So the tweaking of a disabled service should have ZERO effect.
Besides that, in case I wanted that service not disabled, it makes me think: how will the boot time reduce, if we make a service start earlier than normal (by lowering the startup delay) ?
ideally, i would want this “indexing” to start 10+ minutes after i logon, so that i have the time to start using my pc, withaout some services keeping the cpu and HD busy.
