Live Chat On This Blog is Available

Posted by R. MAK. 19 November, 2008 (0) Comment

With addition of the new widgets in sidebar, Live Chat is now available at all my blogs. When ever I am online, you can see my status right here on the blog. you can click one the white balloon on right to reach me when I am signed in to Google. While the bigger chat box below the ‘Recent Tabs’ will let you chat live with me on MSN. you don’t need to have Gtalk or MSN. the web versions are already loaded.

I’m not so sure. if Live Chat will actually will work on blogs like mine or not. I just thought it is a clever idea to include these widgets so people can contact me when I am online. It probably is a better mode of communication with my existing readers. On the flip side is that all chats are lost, once they are done. I can definitely save them on my IM (highly unlikely, I know). Now This is a a new problem: IM conversations generally have a poor signal-to-noise ratio, making it virtually impossible for subsequent readers to find the information they’re looking for. Oh, and don’t get me started on the spam problem. The other potential pitfalls are perm linking and search. The benefit of comments is that they can be perm inked - they become mini-blogs of their own The other advantage of a permanent record is that it turns up in search results - I often find the information I’m looking for in blog comments. If there is no perm link structure for live chat and the chats aren’t stored on the originating blog, all these advantages are lost.

Live Chat on Blog

I may be pushing live chat to its edge but I really want to know the people who visit my blogs. It is very personal and I have every right to engage people visiting my street in any manner I deem fit. period. lol

I think I will give it a shot for a week or two and see the results. Two things can happen, Either I will be over whelmed by the visitors constantly nudging me with PMs or People will just simple ignore these widgets and just pass by silently. I am betting on the second one, while Paul is standing next to me and he thinks I have made a mistake of my life.. let’s see whose prediction comes true.

I wanted to add a section on how to implement live chat on your blog but I think It would be more interesting if you ask me through chat to help you with that :) I am waiting folks..

Have a nice day!

Xbox Live is Down and No Status Update on Website!

Posted by R. MAK. 17 November, 2008 (1) Comment

Gamers all over the world are angry and frustrated, as Xbox Live is not running as it should be. It is online intermittently. One moment it is working, another moment it is not. Even more frustrating for gamers is the blank status update web site of Microsoft.  Below is the screenshot that I took when I last checked  for Xbox live status from Microsoft Website. The servers were down but the site gave away no hint about that.. so much for corporate responsibility.

Ancient Rome 3D Layer For Google Earth Contains 6,700 Buildings

Posted by R. MAK. 13 November, 2008 (2) Comment

My first impressions were WOW! as Google announced the launch of a it’s new 3D layer for Google Earth. By far it is one the most extensive collection of three-dimensional buildings at on GE location. The model depicts Rome in the year 320 AD - at the peak of its development with over a million inhabitants.  At this time it was the largest metropolis in the world and it wasn’t until Victorian London, 1500 years later, that another urban city surpassed Rome.  Because of its size and importance, Rome may be one of the most-studied cities in history.

Google said that it is part of it’s continued effort to make exploration and learning about Ancient Rome both easy and fun. By loading this new layer in Google Earth, ” students, teachers, tourists and historians can:

  • View a virtual representation of the city in 320 AD at the height of its development as the capital of the Roman Empire.
  • Fly around the city using Google Earth’s unique navigation.
  • Explore more than 6700 historic buildings.
  • Zoom in to discover the detailed interiors of eleven ancient structures including the Colosseum.
  • Learn about Ancient Rome through information bubbles written by expert historians.

Ancient Rome 3D is one of the most extensive collections of three-dimensional buildings - and the first ancient city - to be found on Google Earth. Within the Ancient Rome 3D layer users can visit the Roman Forum, stand in the centre of the Colosseum, trace the footsteps of the gladiators in the Ludus Magnus, stand on the Rostra, swoop over the Basilica Julia, fly under The Arch of Constantine or even examine the detail on the facade of the Basilica of Maxentius.”  The Press Release By Google Stated.

Free Action Games For Linux - Download Now

Posted by R. MAK. 12 November, 2008 (0) Comment

Last month we did a review of top 5 free Linux games. We had a lot of our readers complaining that their favorite game was not included. That review was indeed biased toward what we liked in the vast variety of free games available for Linux. Games like music, are a matter of personal taste. It is too subjective a matter to be decided. That is why hundreds and thousands of games are produced each year and only few reach the masses. Very much like music albums. well, enough of the analogy shit. let\s get straight to business. We have reviewed some of the hottest Action Games available for linux. We had following criteria for the inclusion in list

  1. Games should be Free (better open source)
  2. Games should be able to run on Linux without additional software. (wine etc..)
  3. Game should be Action Based.

Now Enjoy the list and let us know what do you think about it
