A netbook has been introduced by Hewlett-Packard on Wednesday. About this netbook the company is hoping that it will entice more businesses to join the mini-laptop craze.

The Mini 5101 contains a 10.1-inch screen, its weight is about 2.64 pounds, and it includes a keyboard that constitutes 95% of the size of a mainstream laptop. This system is being marketed by HP as a "full-function business companion PC," what it means is that it’s hoping business travelers will opt to keep the mainstream laptop in the office and take this new lighter and relatively inexpensive 5101 on the road.

The fastest-growing segment of the PC market is the netbooks, which has faced a fall in sales during the economic recession. Netbooks, whose prices were just $300, have opposed the trend by appealing to cash-strapped consumers. However, netbooks have not been bought by businesses in large numbers.

With their new launch of Mini 5101, HP has now been focused on durability not only for business travelers but for the K-12 education market as well. The system is enclosed in an all-metal case of brushed aluminum and a magnesium base that provides protection to the netbook on the road or in the classroom.

The system is available with optional Wi-Fi and support for wireless carriers’ 3G networks. It also gives us a choice of a light four-cell battery or a heavier six-cell battery for longer battery life. For security reasons, HP has included its Disk Sanitizer that destroys data on a hard drive, it is considered to be a good feature if the netbook is being disposed or handed to another employee.

The system also comes with some other features that includes a 1.66-GHz Intel (NSDQ: INTC) Atom N280 processor, which is used in many netbooks, and when used with a Linux operating system it has up to 2GB of system memory. Those who have Windows XP Home, the 5101 caps at 1 GB.
The netbook also contains a 7200-rpm hard drive with storage options of 160, 250, and 320 GB. Buyers can choose for an 80-GB solid-state drive.
