Here is how you can update your current operating system to Windows 7, in five simple steps.

1. Prepare For Installation

First of all, shift all of your important personal data present on your computer to a DVD or a USB Flash drive. This process will take almost 30 minutes depending on the amount of data. Also, create a recovery DVD for Windows Vista, which will be useful for you in case the installation fails. Run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor by downloading from Microsoft website, in order to determine the software and hardware compatibility. Next, update your current Windows Vista and uninstall program incompatible with Windows 7.

2. Windows 7 Installation

If you have an HP desktop or Laptop, run the HP upgrade assistant DVD, following the instructions. Then, run Windows 7 DVD and follow the onscreen instructions. The installation process takes around 90 minutes, but it will depend on your RAM and Processor speed.

3. Upgrade Process

Once the Windows 7 operating system is installed, run the Windows Update for Windows 7 and update your antivirus software too. Try to go for AVG Antivirus and NORTON Antivirus.

4. Fix Incompatible Programs Issue

It is possible that many programs or devices that were compatible with Windows Vista operating system will not work with Windows 7. This may include several hardware devices such as printers, scanners, fax machines or Webcams. Most of the times, Windows 7 automatically searches for device drivers and installs them. If that doesn’t happen, then go to device manufacturer’s website and download drivers compatible with Windows 7. Remember to uninstall the incompatible software programs from the Add / Remove programs in Control Panel.

5. Improve Efficiency

After you successfully install Windows 7, defragment the hard drive from Control Panel. By doing this, the disk data gets organized, improving computer speed and efficiency. Also remove unnecessary program from Startup by un-checking them from MSCONFIG tool.
