Nokia N97 Vs Apple’s iPhone, Which is Better?
Posted on 26 March 2010 by noor
The iPhone has successfully dominated the mobile phone market for a long time now. While many other smartphones have tried to come up to that level, they have not been able to match the users requirements in the way that the iPhone does, except for the Nokia N97, which has its own large share in the market.

Lets take a look at what features do the iPhone and the N97 have in common and what are different.
Overall, both the phones share a similar look, having curved edges and big screens that enable the user to view movies easily on the phone.
Although the N97 is a little longer and narrower than the iPhone 3G S, but the iPhone is thinner. This is basically because Nokia has a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard which is absent in the iPhone.
Both the smartphones have much more to offer than just the facility to make calls. The phones have all the capabilities to offer a complete entertainment package. You can easily watch movies, play games and flip through pictures on both the phones.
Each phone has a 3.5 inch screen, which is movie-friendly too.
Although the N97 offers brighter colors, the iPhone has far better touchscreen capabilities.
Apple has the greatest advantage of owning the app store, that offers millions of different apps for users. On the other hand, the Ovi store just started in May last year, and doesn’t have that many apps officially. Although Apple App Store can offer apps dedicated to big names such as Facebook, Skype, BBC World News and Last.fm, Nokia provides you apps for Nokia Internet Radio, Friendster and the Daily Star.
Considering the software, the N97 is running on the Symbian v9.4, series 60, 5th edition, whereas the iPhone 3G S uses the iPhone OS 3.0.
Apple has specifically designed its operating system and interface based around the internet, offering easy mail setup, and web browsing Safari browser.
The N97 works better offline than when it is running the web. It doesn’t have an efficient browser, and offers a little difficulty while setting up email accounts. The N97 however does offer Java support which the iPhone lacks.
If you check out the camera, the N97 has a far better snapper on it, while iPhone still carries its inadequate 3 megapixel camera, with no flash. However, the iPhone 3G S does have a video camera and MMS messaging which the previous models lacked.
But the N97 boasts a 5 megapixel camera equipped with the Carl Zeiss Tessar f/2. optics and a dual LED flash, making it one of the finest cameras available till now in mobile phones.
Overall, although the N97 does have a lot to offer and works great, iPhone 3G S is still preferable. This is because for many users, although a camera may be important, it’s not an essential part of the deal, otherwise they would get a digital camera instead.
