The popular web browser Firefox will soon be available for mobile phones as well.

The browser, which is being code named as Fennec, will be available for Nokia’s N900 phone initially, and for other handsets, in the later stages.

Currently, the browser is going through the final testing phases. It is possible that it may be launched even before New Year, as told by Jay Sullivan at Mozilla, the group behind Firefox.

Fennec, which is an open-source browser, will have the capability to synchronize with the desktop version.

This means that the web pages that are opened in a user’s desktop browser will automatically open in the mobile version.

This is especially useful for people extensively using the smartphones, as they can take their work wherever they want.

The best thing is that the software encrypts all of the information and sends it back through the cloud between your desktop and mobile.

Jay also added that provided that everything goes smoothly, the software could be available to download “within the year”.

Users will be able to download the browser from the Mozilla website and it will then be offered in Nokia’s Ovi store, so that N900 owners can download the software.

There is also news that some versions are being developed for Microsoft’s Windows mobile and Google’s Android operating system, but the iPhone still remains far off as according to the company, Apple is very restrictive and does not allow other browsers.

Hopes are that the mobile version of Firefox will follow the success of its desktop browser.
