Nokia Enters PC Market With Mini-Laptop Launch

On Monday, In a bid to bolster sagging handset sales, Nokia Corp. (NOK) has launched a portable mini-laptop computer, with this launch the world’s biggest mobile phone maker has marked an entry into the PC business.
It has been said by the Nokia Booklet 3G, by which Microsoft Inc.’s (MSFT) Windows software is used, and it will be a “full-function” personal computer featuring high-speed mobile Internet access capability.

The company is still the dominant producer of mobile phones having a 38% share of the global market, although increased competition has been faced by the company for high-end phones from Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPhone, and Research in Motion Ltd.’s (RIMM) Blackberry.
Nokia has also given its market share to Asian rivals such as Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (SSNHY), and that company is already making both PCs and mobile phones. At the same time, companies such as Taiwan’s Acer Inc. (2353.TW), which is the third-largest PC-maker by shipments, in February has launched its first lineup of smartphones.
Nokia has refused to comment on pricing, availability or detailed specifications of the device ahead of a media event Sept. 2.
For the three months to June 30 Nokia’s net profit was EUR380 million, which is down 66% from EUR1.10 billion a year earlier on sales of EUR9.91 billion, which is down from EUR13.15 billion.
Nokia shares were trading up 1.4% at EUR8.89, at 1325 GMT, while the broader Helsinki market was up 1.6%. More than 20% of its value has been lost by the stock in the past three months on concerns over consumer spending amid the recession.
