Free Windows Live Writer 2009 Download

Posted by 26 December, 2008 (2) Comment

Microsoft is not well known when it comes to free software for pubic domain. but for for bloggers there is some good news. Windows Live Writer 2009 is here for download and still it is free.

Although focused at Windows Live Spaces, Windows Live Writer 2009 is one of the best tools available for general purpose bloggers.Windows Live Installer Its earlier version is part of the daily life of many professional blog writers.

I myself love it. I admire the new 2009 version even more. As a matter of fact I am an open-source proponent but the convenience of using WLR 2009 is so great that I too had to accommodate it as my primary post creation tool. I was introduced to WLR 2008  by Paul (A fellow Author on this Blog) Now we are both convinced that it  is a great productivity tool with a excellent interface and superb features.

How to wire a Cat-5 Cable with RJ45 connectors using wiring standards

Posted by 22 December, 2008 (2) Comment

This tutorial helps your understand how to wire a 10BaseT, 100BaseT or 1000BaseT connector with Category 5, 5e, 6, 6e cable and RJ45 connectors using USOC 568B wiring standards.

RJ45 is a standard type of connector for network cables. RJ45 connectors are most commonly seen with Ethernet cables and networks.

RJ45 connectors feature eight pins to which the wire strands of a cable interface electrically. Standard RJ45 pintouts define the arrangement of the individual wires needed when attaching connectors to a cable.

Several other kinds of connectors closely resemble RJ45 and can be easily confused for each other. The RJ-11 connectors used with telephone cables, for example, are only slightly smaller (narrower) than RJ-45 connectors.

Best Virtual Desktop / OS Emulator Tools for Linux

Posted by 16 December, 2008 (0) Comment

There are plenty of tools available for creating virtual machines and servers in windows. These OS Emulation tools comes handy for testing software without investing in a large and expensive hardware lab. Before researching for this list, I was not aware that there are so many Linux tools available for creating virtual desktops and testing operating systems.

VirtualBox

VirtualBox is a family of powerful x86 virtualization products for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

This VM (virtual machine) application, owned by Sun Microsystems and created by a small company called innotek, is one of the most popular virtualization solutions for Linux.

“It’s the third most popular method to run Windows applications on Linux”, according to DesktopLinux.com (trailing Wine, which is not an emulator/virtualizer, and VMWare, which is proprietary).

There’s good reason: it has a plenty of features, including snapshots, shared folders, RDP, ability to use host USB, and a lot of advanced hardware virtualization. There are two versions of VirtualBox. Installing the open-source edition is easy: just install the virtualbox-ose package  in the universe repositories. If  you want to install the enhanced but closed-source version, you’ll need to visit the Web site(below) and download the binaries from there.

vi Editor Commands to Remember by Heart

Posted by 12 December, 2008 (2) Comment

The VI editor is a screen-based editor used by many Unix users. The VI editor has powerful features to aid programmers, but many beginning users avoid using VI because the different features overwhelm them. The best way to learn is to remember these commands by heart, and print out this post and get a free shell account online to practice these and other Linux commands… There’s no better way than to experience things yourself.

Starting the VI Editor

The VI editor lets a user create new files or edit existing files. The command to start the VI editor is vi, followed by the filename. For example to edit a file called temporary, you would type

vi temporary

and then return. You can start VI without a filename, but when you want to save your work, you will have to tell VI which filename to save it into later. Read More
